Spacey is an 18 year old artist from Aurora, Illinois. Striving for versatility in his music, he likes to switch between rap and R&B styles. Growing up, Spacey listened to a lot of hip hop and “dancing music”, as well as noting an EDM phase. His family was very into music, so he was introduced to a variety of genres. He recalls listening to a lot of Tupac, James Brown, and Run-D.M.C. Although he started finding an interest in music at a young age, it was not what inspired him to start creating his own.

After seeing several family members make music, Spacey started seeing the art in the process, and gaining interest. He expresses, however, that it didn’t really become a complete thought until he was at school, sitting at lunch with his friends, writing raps. It started out as fun, but Spacey started to realize that he was good at writing music, and began taking it more seriously.

As far as his style, Spacey cites NBA Youngboy and Kanye West as his two biggest influences. He explained how he finds a lot of vulnerability in some of Youngboy’s music, and is able to switch tones to express more serious messages. He has the same admiration for Kanye, noting that he’s always been able to make timeless music, but is also open about mental health struggles. Outside of music, Spacey says that his biggest inspiration is his older sister. He notices how driven and focused she is, and has a great deal of respect for that. He finds it motivating him to work hard and keep himself on track.

This has become a great strength to Spacey. He shared that although everyone has doubts at some points, he’s not worried about where he’s at. “Life isn’t written,” he says. Spacey is very aware of how you never really know where something’s going to take you, or when something in your life will change unexpectedly. He explains why he finds it important to think on both sides of a situation. He says he always does his best to see both the good and the bad side, that way he’s able to think realistically, pull himself back into a good mentality when he starts overthinking. Spacey says that he’s confident in his music, he just needs to find his own personal sound and keep working to improve.

Satisfied with how things are going for himself, Spacey has started making some bigger ideas in the near future. He tells of how he’s planning out a collaboration tape with as many local artists as possible. Not only does he find it a good way to highlight local talent, but it’ll also help him learn to integrate new styles and ideas into his own work. He’s also interested in starting to host small shows in the future. Spacey expresses how his goal is to involve the local music community as much as possible, so that people can build relationships and find new support from people with similar goals.

Though he’s a newer artist, Spacey hopes that as he grows, he will be able to spread the message of conquering your demons, as well as your dreams. “You can battle with your problems - one might win, one might lose. But to conquer something, that’s to accept it and make it your own. Be open to trying new things, and don’t hesitate to follow your dreams. Whether it’s big or small, do what makes you happy.” Spacey finds himself waiting for the right time to tell his own story, and is looking forward to hearing his fans find honesty and a sense of belonging in his work.
